i can tell because of their age as john bingham observed and lack of proximity to their native range.
you will note that all the bird sare the same age- mom can only hatch 2 so these are from an incubator.
for that price- it is impossible to smuggle wild caught birds across the pacific, and the habitat in their native range has already been logged ages ago- that is why they are endangered- the normal vector for wild caught birds being forestry as a collateral activity- windfall.
These and most parrots are quite easily bred.
Only in Kalimantan and Irian Jaya is there that kind of wholesale environmental destruction that brings wild birds to market.
The rest of the planet was already done over 50 to 150 years ago.

i think keeping these birds is a great service. in time their habitat may be restored so keeping them around in numbers preserves the diversity and offers a chance of survival into the future.
they adapt very well to a spacious aviary where they can fly.
very worthwhile pursuit keeping parrots in my opinion.
if given good conditions they will breed.
thats the metric of care really.
they can also naturalise quite readily into new environments.

Not true. Lovebirds are caught in horrific numbers in places like Tanzania......frank lee bent wrote:i can tell because of their age as john bingham observed and lack of proximity to their native range.

The chicks in the OP are conures, which are from the Amazon. They may look like love birds, but they are conures.

It was posted to name and shame them, so that people can see them and say, "fucking disgusting."hanno wrote:Probably and surely wild caught and smuggled. Fucking disgusting and the Mod's should delete a thread that sells endangered and illegal animals, IMHO.
Mission accomplished.

Sure, and they only look like lovebirds because they are juveniles. Adult Conures are much larger than any lovebird. Most species of lovebirds have red bills while most conures have gray ones.StroppyChops wrote:The chicks in the OP are conures, which are from the Amazon. I don't like keeping the birds. Just let them fly wherever they want to.
