A little update:

Pyrantel Pamoate is available in Cambodia in bigger pharmacies. Pyrantel Pamoate is against roundworms and hookworms in cats and dogs. It comes in tablet form (125 mg) and costs just Riel 500 per tablet. You will need about 20 - 25 mg per kilogram. So a 6 kilo cat equals 1 tablet. Repeat after 2 weeks.

Praziquantel (against tapeworms) is also available. If your cat has or had fleas, it probably is also infected with tapeworms. Praziquantel comes also in tablet form (600 mg) and costs $ 1 per tablet. For a cat you will need 15 mg per kg (so be careful with the dosage.....)

Forgot........these are kittens with typical worm bellies......if your cat looks like that, it is heavily infected and you have to treat the cat for at least 2 days (better 3 days) with above mentioned medication(s).

Thanx for your input, Stroppy.....but no.....you have to look at the overall appearance of the animal. Dull, shaggy coat, thin underdeveloped hind legs, bloated stomach, reduced weight...... A clear sign that the cat is infested with roundworms.

You're probably right. Our rescue pup was as round as he was long when we got him - definitely carrying passengers.
