Looking at taking a few days for a side trip this winter. I haven't been to either of these.
Any comments or suggestions?

Do it! It's only a few hours outside the city.

If you end up going to Kampot, it's a must that you go up Bokor Mountain and have a look around. You can see Vietnam on a clear day.

When we were in/on the old casino up the mountain, we had quite clear views. Within a matter of minutes the clouds came and visibility was limited to maybe 10 to maximum 100 meters. The road beyond the old casino was closed as aresult. Eerie indeed.

I love Kep. Plenty of old villas to wander around in/on. One was the vacation home of the Queen Mom's Mom, quite grande and the KR used it as a base camp and you can still see bullet holes in the walls. The King Father's vacation house is tour-able also. It is cared for by a family that camps out there, so float them a buck and you are free to wander around the whole pad.

Also don't miss the crab eating. Plenty of restaurants to choose from. Have the ladies wade out into the surf and drag in a pot full of fresh ones and pick the ones you want. My girl loves to do that.

20 miles or so toward Vietnam there is this secluded beach we found. At the end of a peninsula is a military pill-box looking thing, like you saw the Nazi's have on the hills during D-Day. I clamored my way up and over and around and walked right in this thing. There was no gun emplacement but there were maps and laminated grid sheets strewn everywhere, eerie.

Also there is a killer, well maintained nature trail that winds its way around a 'mountain' near the shore. Takes over an hour to traverse though. My girl wimped out 3/4ths through and I had to go back and get her with the baja.

Also there is Koh Tonsai about 20 min from the coast. I forget the ferry cost, you can sleep in bungalows overnight. Sweet place, and you haven't lived till you've taken your girl just off shore in the warm water, right at sunset and had a sweet, romantic, surreptitious shag.

Ha, I purposely wanted to make a lot of noise as I didn't want to surprise a possible slumbering grunt with an AK, mid-swing in his hammock.
