Massive Raid on Work Permit in Phnom Penh
ACLEDA Bank hired illegal worker to work in its construction site, during the raid, immigration police arrested 65 foreign workers
Phnom Penh: According to Nokorwat News, the immigration police raided in a construction site of head office of ACLEDA bank and as a result, 65 illegal foreign workers arrested and sent to the department of immigration for further procedure. Most of them don’t have passport and work permit. There are five nationalities in total, Korean, English, Malaysian, Philippine and Vietnamese.
The raid on the living documents and work permit of foreigners working in Cambodia took place around 10:00 am on 21 August 2015 at the construction site of head office of ACLEDA Bank located along Monivong Blvd, Sras Chok commune, Daun Penh district.
After the raid and checking, police confirmed that among those foreign workers, 38 Vietnamese, 20 of them have no passport and 18 other have passport with T-type visa. 18 Korean, all of them have passport and visa, but only 14 of them have work permit, 4 Philippine, 4 Malaysian and 1 British. All of them are male.
After that Immigration police sent all the undocumented Vietnamese workers to the department of immigration and make a report to the minister of ministry of interior seeking for the approval to deport them out of Cambodia next week and 4 Korean, 1 Malaysian, 1 Englishman who have passport and visa but no work permit were advised to apply for work permit and fined each $125 for working in Cambodia without work permit.
