Pattaya is fun at first, but quickly becomes boring. I remember it years ago, less busy. I preferred it then. Now it's too busy, and the traffick is awful. You'd have to be nuts to want to live there over other places in Thailand.
The antidote for lazy tourists is to visit places like Ko Samui, etc, instead. Nice beaches, more 'normality'... and still some ladybars if thats what you require... but at least some balance.
Pattaya is just full on sex, and it's all built for Men, that's why Women don't go there. I's cool for what it is, close to bkk, but quite ugly too.

I don't know about the Coolidge Effect of being there but I know I'm suffering the severe Cold Turkey effect of not being there.
Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.

I used to not like Pattaya much but had to go on business occasionally. Then a Thai friend showed me around restaurants and bars well away from walking street and beach road and I was impressed. Some excellent food to be had, great beers, and nary a ladyboy in sight.

I drive to pattaya once or twice a year, nowadays with my family too.
Some very good accommodation to be found away from the crowds, excellent home cooking or restaurants, plenty of things to do less than 30km away especially with children, good shopping, home marts home pro etc...

It's certainly more family friendly, as it seems to be attempting to attract a wider audience. If only they could somehow reduce the traffick. As much as i like to chillax in Bars, and peoplewatch, it's no fun with full on traffick 24/7.Barang_doa_slae wrote: I drive to pattaya once or twice a year, nowadays with my family too.

It's difficult because the main roads and adjoining soi's in the town centre were never designed to cope with the volume. Big Tour buses and the number of them completely clog up the centre, the Chinese seem to operate a door to door bus policy everywhere they go which is totally impractical in those big buses. They could half the number of baht buses without an impact on convenience to passengers, many drive around empty a lot of the time and definately clog up the traffic flow stopping all the time looking for customers. Personally I think the beach road second road circuit is ideally suited to a continuous tram system with designated stops. Maybe extend a branch along Naklua and one up the hill to Jomtien but since it will impact the baht buses it won't happen.snookie BRO wrote:It's certainly more family friendly, as it seems to be attempting to attract a wider audience. There's a big underpass being built on Sukhumvit at the moment which will take another 2 years, how successful it will be remains to be seen. There's also a major bypass planned which will cut through the dark side on to Sattahip.
I adjust my life to avoid the worst times, holiday weekends I'm poolside, shopping I'm up early while others are sleeping off the night before.
Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.
