We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. NEW REPORT:
Cambodis's most crucial forests are disappearing at a rate of more than 2,000 square kilometres a year, as agricultural firms continue to harvest timber by illegal means in protected areas and national parks, according to a study from Washington-based Forest Trends.

The report, released yesterday evening, uses satellite imagery to link “the growing number of industrial agricultural development projects to the escalating destruction of Cambodian forests”.

Combining data culled from NASA satellite pictures of 32,053 hotspots during the 2012-13 dry season with the measurement of carbon emissions, Forest Trends determined that companies controlling ELCs were logging some of the country’s oldest and most valuable forests.

Those forests, the report says, fall not only on land designated for plantations – often stripped of trees then left simply abandoned – but in protected areas and national forests as well...

How do average Cambodians feel about that Prahkeitouj? Do they know, do they care, do they understand the environmental consequences for Cambodia, their children or the world?

It is a difficult question. To me I think well-educated people know and understand it, but it doesn't mean all of those care about it. For an example, most people who work on this sector always have beautiful furniture which is made from good wood. They prefer to get benifit from it as much as they can while they have a good chance. It seems they don't really care about the subsistence of the forests. Nowsaday most of our forests are given to private compannies to invest. So government plays important role to protect the forest from the comppanies which harmful to our forests. Btw people in rural area are still need more reliazable media, schools... ect to gain more knowledge. But it is really difficult to deal with it when people can't even eat enough. When the basic needs can't be completed then the brain can't think about anything else.

The government are obviously not performing that role'. The are complicit in the destruction of the forests.

Don't worry. Forests grow back.

On the plus-side; I've noticed a decline in tree-related deaths this year.

My villagers are happy going down to visit that resort and they also happy with the concrete paved road. I don't know how long will they be allowed to visit that private resort.
