I would never do that with something I wanted tattooed.

I disagree that you shouldn't get a phrase or something tattooed. I just am against getting a tattoo that means nothing to you. I have one and it means something to me and my family history. Not a phrase but a symbol with a decorative arm band.

It better be something special like what her khmer bf said to her as she went into the airport or something like that.

Hmmm, so she's getting "I love cockroaches book apple the restaurant man" tattooed?

Doesn't translate exactly as "I carry your heart", but maybe close enough. More like "I'll be true to you". It's a nice/meaningful way of saying "kniom nung smatrong g'amouille neak". Either way, what is "I carry your heart" supposed to mean?

And there's the problem with trying to translate idioms.

I had a group of teachers working on it, and that's what they came up with.

Technically, it all means "I love you sugar poo" so who knows exactly what it means.

Is "I carry your heart" an actual idiom? I have honestly no clue what it's supposed to mean. I'll be there for you? I love you? I'll carry the burden? I honestly find it confusing so no doubt anyone attempting a translation will be off by a bit unless they clearly know the message that your friend is trying to convey.
I coudn't read it all and don't know all the words, but got the gist of it when I asked a coworker to read it out for me. The keyword being "smoh", which means honest. When I asked if it was equivalent to what I thought it meant (in very simplified terms, what I posted above) she said yes. But she confirmed that it's a way more beautiful way of saying it though. And yeah, I think it all means the same thing in the end: "I love you sweety pie".

It's a really pretty poem, don't dish it!

Anyway, I think the translation is pretty good, but maybe a tad too formal, and it doesn't exactly translate "I carry your heart."
It literally says "I will keep my heart faithful for (to?) you" -more or less.

You could still keep the meaning and the poetry by cutting a few words and if she wants to really literally the Khmer phrase to say "I carry your heart" then I would propose:
