but AK87. you're the model citizen, people like me have driven smashed so many times I've lost count.AE86 wrote:I can't speak for everyone, but I've never driven when I've had any amount of alcohol at all at any point during the day/night, even where driving with some alcohol consumption is legal in America. Actually, I've only gotten drunk once outside my home and that was just after my 20th birthday when I became of legal age. Took a taxi home and went back the next day to get my bike.Samouth wrote:Ok i will convince myself to believe that you guys have never been drunk driving. Only Cambodian does it.
I have cut back lately, and generally avoid all night-driving because I don't expect people here to apply the 4-letter word, self-discipline, here.
It is contagious, unfortunately, especially for people like myself who experienced religious nanny states.

Scary.
South Africa, a friend of mine committed suicide because ha had a coloured girlfriend, and they threatened to put it in the newspapers.
People committed suicide because they were caught with porn.
People got beaten up because they were gay or black
My parents were libertarians, but that didn't help as much as it should have.

Scary days indeed.
SA friends tell us about slowing down but never stopping at red lights for fear of car-jacking - constantly timing the roll to be able to power away again. Sounds like PP, but for different reasons. The SAffers we know are fearful people, used to compound living, and always twitchy. Couldn't do it myself.

I could never afford a compound, Friday night head out to Mitchell's Plain, Mannenburg, Bonteheuwel.
Made any depiction of mafia-land look like a tea party.
I watched Trued Detective last night and that was it.
Monday morning, work as normal. LOL

I have been driving since i was 14 years old and i have never had any traffic accidents. i am not a heavy drinker. I normally drink only two draft beer or a glass gin and tonic. I can drive pretty fine.BOFH wrote:Nobody is so drunk until they crash and kill someone.Samouth wrote:However i wasn't really drunk that i couldn't drive my motorbike.
You should really consider taking a motodop the next time you're out drinking.

What a good man. Every time i was out drinking, i was the only one who brought all my completely drunk expats friend home. Like a motordop.AE86 wrote:I can't speak for everyone, but I've never driven when I've had any amount of alcohol at all at any point during the day/night, even where driving with some alcohol consumption is legal in America. This would be a good one for your thread "What Khmer doesn't know about westerners" Samouth.
Amazing as it might seem to you from your experience among the glorious specimans of expats in PP, but 1/ not all westerners drink alcohol 2/some of them drink only in moderation 3/ some drink a lot from time to time, but never look like they're drunk.
Or not too much anyway. Lol.

Thank Anchor Moy for making this even more detail. It is pretty much different how westerner and Cambodian drink. We drink and eat at the same time and Westerner drinks only.Anchor Moy wrote:This would be a good one for your thread "What Khmer doesn't know about westerners" Samouth.

It is really right, my face turned red pretty quick while most of my friends look just the same and they drank even more than me.

No, sorry, Samouth. All western countries (and westerners) do not have the same drinking habits. In Europe, particularly in the south - France, Italy, Spain for example - people are usually eating when they drink.Samouth wrote:Thank Anchor Moy for making this even more detail. This is also considered to be a civilized way to get drunk among the middle/upper classes in the UK and the rest of Europe.(Yeah, I'm generalizing.)
What you are probably seeing in Cambodia are young westerners without much money who think that having a party just means getting wasted- so drugs and alcohol are more important than food. But, all westerners are not like this. Parties in France or Spain always have food as well as drink (and possibly drugs.) It's just different cultures. All westerners don't have the same way of drinking.
Also, in most places, the younger you are, the more you drink to get drunk.
