Way Eh Pet, vaccinating for Newcastle disease
I've just bought a load of Vietnamese bantams, 'short leg' chickens in the local parlance.
Usually I get them sent down to the local place to get the vaccinations, but because the thieving bastard peasants robbed a load of my birds out in the countryside, these buggers are staying here in my town garden.
I bought a vial of some Vietnamese medicine, which is kinda gunky stuff at the bottom, along with some distilled water and a syringe. All kept refrigerated.
I think that I must inject the water into the vial, mix it up and then either put a 1 drop into a birds eye, or mouth. Is this correct? The birds are still very young, but that shouldn't matter, should it?
Thanks.

SeriouslY?
1. You don't know the manufacturer
2. You don't know what the 'medicine' is for
3. You don't know how much/how to administer it
4. You don't know if age is a factor
Go ahead, what could go wrong?

Re: Way Eh Pet, vaccinating for Newcastle disease
Thanks Vlad, another BRILLIANT post and answer to my question. Big hand.
The medicine is for NEWCASTLE DISEASE, dickwad. I bought it as a vaccine for, wait for it... NEWCASTLE DISEASE (fuck me, are we getting ahead of ourselves??).
The animal supply shop sold the medicine as a vaccine for, wait for it NEWCASTLE DISEASE, so I'm pretty confident that it is a vaccine for that particular chicken ailment.
The man gave me instructions in Khmenglish, so I'm fairly confident that eye/oral is the route, administered 1 drop per bird.
I was merely asking, on a subforum about farming, for some advice from people who have done it before, not for a sarky reply from someone, whom I guess doesn't keep birds as a hobby.

sure- just a drop in the ye
you can get the thermostable australian ND vax from CP company in takhmau and at many many ag feed stores.
no cold chain needed- just drop it in their eye every 8 weeks or so.
you are wise to vax against nd- 70% of the national flock dies from it every year usually november- january.

Yes. Lost several dozen birds last year, don't want that to happen again. Obviously after they died khmer logic dictatated "oh, take to shop for injection" for surviving ones. They lived, got big and have just been pinched.
The fuckers i like are quite pricey, so rather they dudnt keel over.
I believe i vaccinate now and once more in a month. Sound right frank?

Re: Way Eh Pet, vaccinating for Newcastle disease
yeah you can do it every couple months.
i was astounded to find the immunity from vaxxed birds goes cross to the eggs!
you can even vax the eggs by thinning the shell with a bit of vinegar and applying the solution to that area!
i have a 500 egg incubator coming to PP soon if you want to hatch some.

Great! Been looking for a small incubator for a while. The village chickens can pop out up to 20 eggs at a time, but only get under 1/2 of the to hatch.

KS, I wasn't being snarky, apologies if it came across that way there is a truce, right? I was proposing you get more info before proceeding, as stock can be expensive, huge difference between various routes.
And yes, my bad for not reading the thread title fully, which mentioned the disease.
Anyway, frank has helped you out, he's the chicken man.
