Things you might not know about Raffles Hotel in Phnom Penh

I bet Samouth realised I was joking.

Thanks GM and OD for making CEO available for everyone. I really like it and i am always glad to be part of it. Cambodia Expats Online is much better than Facebook where i can share and speak freely. Also thanks for everyone who frequently replied on my threads as i have learned more and more from you guys every day and be always patient with my broken English. Not to mention, i can't thank enough for those who PMed me to correct my English. I do appreciate it.General Mackevili wrote:Samouth, I think your perspective on this thread has been very interesting.
One of the reasons many, including myself, are glad to have Cambodians on CEO!
I know that not every comment directed at you was flattering, but that's ok, nobody has to always agree with everyone else.
Don't let it get you worked up. Again, many of us don't get to discuss topics like this with Cambodians a lot, so to get your thoughts on shit is really cool.
Bottom line is you left a shit job. I think one of most people's biggest problem is staying at a shit job.
Hell, I got fired from a mail sorting room at a hospital once, LoL. Thank fuck they fired me. That was a shit job. (I think I lasted half a week before my agency told me the hospital didn't want me back because I was "too slow." I assume they meant "slow" as in speed, and not referring to my mental capabilities, LoL. Leaving that place brought me to better jobs, of course.)
I am really fine with those constructive comments and i also realized that some people will agree with me and some will not. I am big enough i don't really need flattered comments all the time Lol. However, what i couldn't put up with when someone started to scold me, while i did nothing wrong to him.
I actually was fired with the same reason. They said i was really slow.

Right. I am so happy that i did it. I underestimated about that hotel I thought they would pay and treat me well. I love that part (bold). Thanks.Cowshed Cowboy wrote:You can, you did and it was clearly the right decision for you, chalk it down to experience. Re your original OP, " So far I still not get over it " - don't dwell on it , it was only for 3 days 4 years ago you may well encounter worse at some stage of your future career, hopefully not. Paraphrasing your OP, because it's a recognisable 5 star brand you thought it would be a great place to work. Never assume that recognisable brand companies treat their employees well, they are successful at making profits which can and often does involve less than generous staff conditions. If you make a success of your career and reflect on it in future years the only likely guarantee is the guy standing serving you a drink in a decent restaurant or hotel is still on a shit wage. Drop him a decent tip if he's good at his job, he might be in the same position you were but doesn't have a choice.Samouth wrote:
I really don't understand, if you have a better choice than starting with shitty job, why can't you just do the better one.

Yeah, I took it as a compliment that I wasn't fitted to be a mail room sorter, and my agency thought it was funny.Samouth wrote:

I think my following job was as a ballroom dance instructor, LoL! Great job but lousy pay. I basically got free dance lessons for almost a year while in training, no salary at all, but I did get paid for lessons I taught ($10 me thinks) even while in training.
