Microsoft to stop producing Windows versions

Post by BOFH »

Jerry Nixon, a Microsoft development executive, said in a conference speech this week that Windows 10 would be the "last version" of the dominant desktop software.

His comments were echoed by Microsoft which said it would update Windows in future in an "ongoing manner".

Instead of new stand-alone versions, Windows 10 would be improved in regular instalments, the firm said.
"Windows will be delivered as a service bringing new innovations and updates in an ongoing manner," it said, adding that it expected there to be a "long future" for Windows.

In 100 years, ctrl+alt+delete will still be the most used keys, and the most common message will still be 'windows could not fix the problem'.

It translates as "pay a subscription annually or we cut you off from all your other software". Those taking a "free" upgrade to Windows 10... are going to get shat on from a giant height.

A couple of years ago, in another part of cyberspace, I'm sure I recall suggesting to you to try Linux Mint. And, you did.
For a little while at least.
Around the same time, I mentioned it to another guy and he is still using it to this day.

If MS wants to go that route, then we the consumer can choose the alternatives. What problem?
