Those Living Cheaply Under a Grand

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

What does interest me though is the sycophantic news media that always chooses 'pro' speakers who are professionally dressed and perhaps suspiciously a little too well groomed, whereas the 'nays' are always selected from a shallow gene pool of welfare bogans that wouldn't seem out of place being interviewed by Sam Newman.
I know we have a good and effective system of personal recognition in the CEO Karma thingy but Strop, you, sir, get a beer credit, to be redeemed at any reasonably priced establishment, on our first meet.

Do you need to go to walletnook.com for a new wallet now Sheldon?

You want to save money, you must be prepared to make sacrifices.

I had happily lived in shared accommodation for 2 years here, and paid between $60-$130 per month in rented housing alone.

You don't necessarily need to live in a house with others. Just share the house. The last house I shared with 3 other people, and we hung out once a month even though we lived together every day for over 2 years.

You don't live in each other's rooms or floors unless it has been stated otherwise.

Yeah, sharing accommodation is OUT OF THE QUESTION. I would have to be truly desperate to even consider that option. Maybe you younger fellows are accustomed to it, just out of Uni and all, but it's not for me...never was and never will be. If I am ever sharing a house with another dude, something has gone terribly, terribly wrong in my life.

I have houseguests a fair amount, and sometimes let one stay a little longer term, but in the end I like my space.

Nothing wrong with sharing IF you have the right people. We were all good mates first, so that helps. Oh, an update on that too. Nick has just gone back to the U.K so its now only me and my G.F there full time, in a 3 storey, 6 bedroom house @ $75 a month rent. The other 2 brothers come over for 4 - 5 days once a month on their week off from the mines in W.A. So we have been lucky in this case, the perfect share accommodation!

I also have the perfect share accommodation in OZ. a 50 + yo lady looks after my house, pays the elec etc , and I walk in the door every 6 months, stay a couple of weeks and am gone again .No agreements, no rent and much less problems than renting it. It's a win-win situation that works between us because we both benefit from the deal.
