Ireland to hold referendum on gay marriage
No surprise here, the Catholic church is using scare tactics and urging people to pray before voting.
The surprise is that it seems that a majority will support gay marriage, despite the fact that on the subject of abortions, Ireland is extremely conservative.(More or less illegal unless it is question of life and death, and even then...)

And interestingly, this will be the first time that the legalization of gay marriage will be decided by referendum. In a series of recent opinion polls, support for gay marriage in Ireland has stood at around 70% of the electorate although among older voters there is a small majority who will vote no.

I'd say a referendum is a pretty good way of going about it. Not saying the masses are always right, but it's democratic.

A Gae-lic referendum may be a little bias!

Unless it's yet another referendum in Australia on daylight savings, which is then ignored when the masses overwhelmingly say no and business wants yes.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote:I'd say a referendum is a pretty good way of going about it. Not saying the masses are always right, but it's democratic.

SC, in all fairness, to mention 'government' and 'Australia' in the same sentence; oxymoron
