How do I go about joining together, several video's taken on my camera, and adding music to them. This would involve a certain part of a song to a certain part of the video.

Windows movie maker is free and very simple to use. Any video footage you load in will be visible on a timeline where you can trim them to the desired length, cut to other footage, add audio etc. You can easily add audio and titles and simple transitions/ fades etc.
