The real expert

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

The real expert

Post by taabarang »

Many thanks to those of you who enjoyed my posts on arranged marriages and the idioms and rural style of speaking in our village that I offered. However, the real thanks is due to my wife, Kheang, who has patiently stood by me as I stumbled over the culture, leaving a trail of faux pas along the way and for patiently repeating and repeating words from the new language that my tongue and teeth stumbled over, searching in vain for the correct places and points of articulation. Without her, these posts of mine would never have seen the light of day. I waited a long time for a life partner and I couldn't have found better anywhere else in the world. So, those thanks belong to her. I did however play an important part in bringing forth our two children. And NO, our marriage was anything but arranged.

I have never imagined my life to be anything other than what it was. But this is the best of all the things I never imagined. Her softness takes the edge off the sharp realities of Cambodian life.

Taabarang you have the best wife and teacher. :thumb: :thumb:

If you know a lot, know enough to make them respect you, if you are stupid, be stupid enough so they can pity you.

There is a zen saying I like very much, 'When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." Maybe it was like that.
