To our Cambodian members I have a question

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Hate to think what would have happened had they not stepped in.
The splendid artistic legacy of Angkor Wat and other Khmer monuments in the Angkor region led directly to France adopting Cambodia as a protectorate on 11 August 1863 and invading Siam to take control of the ruins. This quickly led to Cambodia reclaiming lands in the northwestern corner of the country that had been under Siamese (Thai) control since 1351 AD (Manich Jumsai 2001), or by some accounts, 1431 AD.[16] Cambodia gained independence from France on 9 November 1953 and has controlled Angkor Wat since that time.
Could you give me the link of this article?

PS Thailand was called SIAM

Right we call them Siam. We also named Siem Reap province after it.

Siem took Battambong, Morhanorkor(Siem Reap) and northen of Kampong Thom about 1796. And in 1814 Siem took some more provinces. According to treaty 1904 and 1907 , France-Siem, some provinces were returned to Cambodia included Siem Reap province.
That's it. Thanks little salary for clearifying the year.

In page 444, treaty 1867 which France cut Battambong and Angkor to Siam legally for accepting the France protectorate in Cambodia.

Btw, We consider 1863 was the year of France protectorate started and 1884 was the start of France colony in Cambodia.
