Going rogue, ninja style

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Samaritans set back by sword-swinging suspect

A failed motorbike robbery in Poipet on Saturday night proved the old adage that no good deed goes unpunished. When a man left a club at about midnight, two men – one wielding a samurai sword – stopped him, ordering him off his bike, police said.

An ad hoc posse that quickly materialised attempted to hold the men for police, but three of the do-gooders were seriously injured when the sword came into play. The injured men were hospitalised, and the two suspects were arrested.

Housewarming hijinks give way to swordplay
Fri, 3 April 2015
Phak Seangly
Police in Phnom Penh’s Meanchey district are on the lookout for six men who hacked a woman with a samurai sword and made off with her motorbike on Wednesday night.

The 31-year-old woman was driving home from a friend’s housewarming party at about 9:30pm, when a gang of six men on several motorbikes followed and ran her off the road, police said.

When she tried to escape, one of the men, armed with a samurai sword, gashed her left hand and head, before the group made off with her bike. Police are investigating. KOH SANTEPHEAP
