Worth reading
a very sad 1st person account from the kr era.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
Re: Worth reading
If you go to ask all KR survivors, you will get similar story. However, it is really sad though.
បើសិនធ្វើចេះ ចេះឲ្យគេកោត បើសិនធ្វើឆោត ឆោតឲ្យគេអាណិត។
If you know a lot, know enough to make them respect you, if you are stupid, be stupid enough so they can pity you.

Re: Worth reading
I just got around to reading this - very moving. Also quite poetic.
I also sent it on to friends who don't know much about Cambodia. It was a good read for them too, as well as being informative. You don't hear much about Cambodia in the "outside world" if you're not looking for info.

I knew Pheng 20 years ago when he told me that story. Used to hear a lot of KR stories back then. A lot. Used to leave me drained listening. Amongst them, I found this one, while stained with tragedy, to be less so than many, and the fact that he found his wife (and belief) to be a very hopeful and happy (if bittersweet) end to it. His heartfelt telling of meeting the ghosts used to raise the hair on my arms. He later taught me how to take care of the local spirit and speak enough Khmer at the pagoda to get the proper blessings. God works in mysterious ways, or so they say.
