Sihanoukville Sees Surge in Investment Proposals
Preah Sihanouk Province Receives 97 Investment Proposals Following Special Program Launch
[CAMBODIA NEWS] Preah Sihanouk Provincial Governor Mang Sineth has announced that the province has received 97 investment proposals following the launch of Prime Minister HM's special program to boost investment in the region for 2024.
The governor made this statement during a courtesy meeting with H.E. Teo Lay Cheng, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Singapore to Cambodia, on July 29, 2024.
Of the 97 proposals, 61 projects have received preliminary approval, while three were rejected. Six projects have been postponed, and three are pending approval, according to Governor Sineth.
Tourism remains a key sector with significant potential in Preah Sihanouk Province. The Cambodian coastline, including Sihanoukville's beaches, has been recognized as one of the world's cleanest beaches by an organization in Senegal.
In the first six months of 2024, Preah Sihanouk Province welcomed 2.8 million visitors, including 2.6 million domestic tourists and over 200,000 international visitors. This marks an increase compared to the same period in 2023. European tourists visiting the province often combine their trip with visits to Kampot and Kep provinces, particularly for activities on Koh Rong Island such as fishing, diving, and exploring marine biodiversity.
Preah Sihanouk Province boasts excellent connectivity via road, sea, and air. The Sihanoukville Autonomous Port has ambitious expansion plans, with the current water depth at 13.50 meters. The third phase of expansion, set to complete in 2029, will increase the depth to 17.50 meters.
The Cambodian government has designated Preah Sihanouk Province as a model multi-purpose special economic zone. To support this vision, the government has invested in the construction of 37 urban roads, laying the groundwork for the province's future development as a multi-purpose special economic zone.
