Re: Worth the death penalty?
1.83 million people locked up in USA. Prisons are a “for profit” affair. There’s gold in them thar cells!hdgh29 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 5:46 pm Officials and corrupt business leaders in Vietnam are regularly given the death penalty for accepting bribes and involvement in shady dealings, including some previously high ranked government people.
The best thing about the death penalty in Vietnam is that it is executed (ok, bad pun) almost immediately after sentencing. I can never understand why murderers and rapists are held on death row in the US for like 20 years before being finally killed off. I accept the state needs to make sure that they are definitely guilty, but it doesnt take decades to decide that.
Re: Worth the death penalty?
I personally dont support death penalty for economic crimes but many countries, including Vietnam obviously, see it as a crime against all of the people when you target a bank which gives millions of people to reparate. Look up local laws if you would ever try to defraud a bank yourself
She obviously wanted to gain/damage as much as possible. There is no justification for this amount. She could have just defrauded a few millions and enjoyed the rest of her life somewhere else in the world but she insisted to keep going causing as much damage as possible. That should also be taken into account.
I think she should just have been thrown in jail the rest of her life and government stepping up as they also bear responsibility for even letting it happen to begin with.

Agree with Albror, economic crimes aren't worthy of the death penalty.
However, if the figures given are true that is both an amazing level of greed and plain stupidity.
That aside, I'm not in favour of the death penalty.

Re: Worth the death penalty?
I'm not generally in favour of the death penalty except for those who have committed brutal violent crimes.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
Re: Worth the death penalty?
I'm agnostic on the death penalty.
