Love it. Have they imprinted on you, or did you get them too old for that?

The two bigger ducks are imprinted to each other. The little duckling was imprinted to us but he's now been accepted into the flock with the bigger ducks. Now he follows them around all day, but he's still willing to sit on my lap.

The geese are totally imprinted to us, and if I try to leave the yard they run after me crying with their wings out until I close the gate in their faces.

Heh heh heh! And you feel a little guilty every time you have to close the gate, right?

It's excruciating. I am looking forward to them growing up, but know that I'm going to feel bereft once they do. When the imprint wears off it's like your child going off to kindergarten.

Today I got them an inflatable paddle pool to tide them over until we decide about a pond. :D

If you don't call one of them Donald or Daffy you're just wasting everybody's time.

Sorry to tell you this, but strong imprinting lasts for at least 4 years in geese... and never fully stops.

Just as a thought, what about a cheap plastic water tank, cut in half lengthways?

Your waterfowl appear decidedly cagey. I suspect you are haboring crooked ducks, although delightfully cute unprincipled ones.

I don't think the imprinting is strong, they are more bonded with each other than with me.

The water tank is a good idea. How would I cut a plastic water tank in half?
