Problem, computer not connecting to internet

Post by mikeukt »

Situation is, at home Ezecon internet, various devices use this successfully. Now my desktop just started this, it still shows the ethernet/wifi symbols intermitantly, but then cuts out to show no connection. Even when the symbols show, I try to open any site, "Can't connect, try...."comes up.

Problem is obviously the computer. Any of you hotshots any idea as to cause? And anything I can do myself other than take it to PTC?

Sunspots - I had to turn off all my iPads because they attract too much heat , can only use the little iPhones because they are smaller and less of a heat absorber

I can access the internet through other devices. It's the situation with the desk top and what to do I'm asking about.

Username taken is right. we need to find the issue, and the first step is to connect the computer that makes trouble to another source of internet. Is that possible?

Next step would be to post the output of "ipconfig /all" here (windows button + R -> then in the field that opens "CMD" -> then in the new, black window "ipconfig /all"). If you run Linux, open a terminal and run "ifconfig"
Driving on Cambodian roads is just like playing a classic arcade top scroller. The only difference is a force feedback controller, the limitation to only one life and the inability to restart, once Game Over

As ressl said.
The idea is to connect your desktop PC to the internet using your phone as a router.
This will determine if the problem is with your PC or with your Ezecom device.

As ressl and Username Taken said. Try connecting the desktop machine to a different source of internet eg phone hotspot. Release/renew DHCP (ipconfig) is also suggested, ipconfig params for a Windows machine can be found here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windo ... s/ipconfig

Trying to use a different connection will verify your initial assumption that the desktp has an issue. Work methodologically and step-by-step in troubleshooting. As you state the PC is alternatively trying to connect over WiFi then Ethernet disable one then the other to isolate potential issues. Wifi AND network adapter failing concurrently seems a bit unlikely. Many desktop motherboards have multiple Ethernet ports but I assume you have tested alternating those if present...

Assume is also what everyone is doing as we do not even know whether you are on Windows/Mac/Open BSD/one of many available Linux distros. Probably Windows as it has highest market share but troubleshooting/fixing WiFi connections varies between Windows versions as well: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... 07eee84d2c

Try removing the battery(if removable) unplug and press power button for 10 seconds, then reverse engineer the process.

Interesting, if somewhat over my head. So, my understanding: disconnect my computer from the Ezecon connection; try using my phone as a hotspot and see if the problem goes away or not. And yes, it is Windows. Can't do anything now as my tech advisor, teenage daughter, isn't here.

Maybe I should change my username to ITdinosaur.

Genuine thanks for the advice guys.

Taking out the Ram cards and sticking them back in after blowing on them and wiping them with your shirt can often do wonders too. 8-)
