The Visto/Atoz (I've had both), get about 13-15 km/l using A/C around town IF they are setup properly. Very cheap to run and get fixed properly but the door handles like to break all the time. Between both my cars, I had to replace 6 door handles, but they are relatively easy to work on and keep running well. The only thing I don't like is that they are 3 spd automatics without lockup, so for that reason I'd rather have a Gen II Matiz for $500-1000 more.
A $3k Corolla would do only slightly better than a Camry on fuel, I did 8 km/l and the Camry 6.5-7 ish.
