Biggest Taiwan Quake in 25 years.

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

Biggest Taiwan Quake in 25 years.

Post by newkidontheblock »

Headlines:
‘Taiwan's strongest earthquake in 25 years kills 9 people, 50 missing’

‘The quake hit at a depth of 15.5 km (9.6 miles), just as people were headed for work and school, setting off a tsunami warning for southern Japan and the Philippines that was later lifted.’

‘Aftershocks could still be felt in Taipei, with more than 50 recorded, weather officials said.’

Parents just arrived in Taiwan on Saturday/Sunday. No reply so far. Seems like the quake hit East hard.

I know someone in Taipei. She's saying there are lots of aftershocks, which is to be expected, but outside of the Hualien area, which was the epicenter, there doesn't seem to be much damage.

Do you know where your parents are staying? Apparently there were power outages in some areas, and probably damage to other infrastructure which could make communications difficult for a day or so.

Etta James always rocked, still does !
Great taste in this car & situation... "Something's got a hold on me" was the right choice indeed...either that or "Let there be rock" or something by the Rolling Stones anyway ^^

Parents are OK. They live in Taoyuen, near the TPE airport. Thank you for your concerns.

Taiwan is part of the earthquake zone (just like Japan). Just not as often.

That and the yearly typhoon season.

Not mainland China related.

It seems God is punishing them, according to Rudy Giuliani:
Speaking on his show, Giuliani said: "We were in the communist state of New York and then we were in Connecticut and we just escaped all the earthquakes then we got to Massachusetts which probably had some earthquakes and we got to New Hampshire where there were no earthquakes which is telling me that somebody's sending us a message.

My good buddy in Taipei said it was pretty scary, but Taipei did very well and they rode it out without any problems.
