UN picks Saudi Arabia to lead women’s rights forum despite ‘abysmal’ record
The UN does a great job at making itself more irrelevant every day:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/ ... commissionSaudi Arabia has been chosen as the chair of the UN commission that is supposed to promote gender equality and empower women around the world, after an unopposed bid for leadership condemned by human rights groups because of the kingdom’s “abysmal” record on women’s rights.

I wonder if this is an early April Fool's joke?

One would hope so, but it seems real. Not comprehensible, for me at least. I guess it is all politics, but it is a sad state of affairs when even the UN makes it clear that they do not give a flying eff about women's rights.

Yep that's him. The movie was kind of a defining moment in NZ culture, it made everyone look at the dark side of society. Even now it's a kind of reference for domestic abuse - if you say you grew up in a Once Were Warriors family, everyone knows what you mean.Username Taken wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2024 2:54 pmAnd for those of us who haven't a clue who or what Jake the Muss is:Random Dude wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2024 2:38 pm That's like having Jake the Muss run a battered women's refuge.

The 'cook the man some eggs' scene is on YouTube, don't watch it if you have a weak stomach. If you do watch it though, you'll understand my comparison between Jake the Muss and the Saudi's running a women's rights forum.
