Sending a computer by mail from Europe

Post by Rune »

Well not mail. Fedex or Ups. A used laptop. Will I have any problems with that?

I wouldn't bother that's at all. For the money shipping costs + time and money at the customs, you can buy a decent (used) device here
Driving on Cambodian roads is just like playing a classic arcade top scroller. The only difference is a force feedback controller, the limitation to only one life and the inability to restart, once Game Over

You will have to pay "personal import" 20% on the value of the device. It will be on you to show the value/lack of value, but expect a bare minimum of $50 to get it through. Definitely wouldn't bother unless it is super special & you can't just get a laptop like it here (top end gaming rigs for example). Even if it is more about the data on it than the device, better get that transferred on to a device bought here.

Better ship an encrypted SSD with a backup? Shipping laptop will be expensive and there's taxes to be paid.

Wanna bet?

I bet on yes. If I recall well anything over 50$ is taxable. Especially when using DHL, but I wouldn't trust and courier service to get it in tax free these days.
Then there's the battery issue when shipping it.... Big chance the shipment will bounce at the first scanning point. Rechargeable batteries are exempted by most.
