If your best joke gets you kicked off the venue, maybe, just maybe, it's not as funny to others as you think it is yourself. I'm surprised you even noticed there was an audience present, Rupert Pupkin.Fridaywithmateo wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2024 1:10 pm Super corny joke about a Chinese guy and a Jewish girl arguing about the name of the baby girl ... short version ... they try therapy and reach compromise and name the girl Julie. I did the long version alba Norm MacDonald style (my comic hero).
My best joke, and tested many times ... it does kill and got some great laughs ... but the problem with open mics in some venues is people are there not for comedy, (talking, texting, eating) so I figure likely, if it was the joke, it was somebody (Karen type) who took it wrong and complained. But I really have no idea what it was. Mystery.
Norm MacDonald was a genius and a genuinely kind person with a brilliant wit and writing style. You, sir, are no Norm MacDonald.

A super corny, 20 minute joke about a Chinese guy and a Jewish lady naming their kid Julie is probably about 19 minutes and 45 seconds too long
No wonder you think you have a 90 minute stand-up set. It probably comprises of the Julie joke, a why did the chicken cross the road joke, and a knock knock joke
Do you think the landlady maybe barred you because you were waffling complete shit for 20 minutes into the microphone to all of her customers?
I'd wager that rather than she thought your anecdote and delivery was a bit poor
Genuine question, are you autistic? You're very similar to a heavily autistic guy I know who posts just like you

If you enjoy noise pollution and obnoxious driving practices, Phnom Penh is the place for you!

The prelude to this enlightening detail was one of FridayMat’s entertaining videos where he spent what seemed an eternity looking at himself before uttering the first grunt.
I don’t think a grasp of time is a strong point with this chap.
Now, the thread started off discussing BBQ. Mat- might we get back to that, instead of further details of your short comedy career?

Roasting in a barbecue thread doesn't seem inapropriate ^^
Re: Smith's Texas BBQ Phnom Penh
There is no "Open Mic" night at Lonestar. There is a music night on Tuesdays which has a host (Kevin Sysyn) and a regular line-up. Newcomers are welcome to do a song/set, but you will have to get passed Kevin. If you told him you were going to tell a 20 minute joke, I would be astonished if you got passed him. It is "open" only insofar as open for music. I would also be astonished if you would get passed the 2 minute mark of a long rambling joke without the crowd turning on you.Fridaywithmateo wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2024 1:10 pm Super corny joke about a Chinese guy and a Jewish girl arguing about the name of the baby girl ... short version ... they try therapy and reach compromise and name the girl Julie. As for being posthumously barred (having died on stage), Nicki doesn't bar people unless they haven't paid a previous bill, caused a fight (even a losing one) or committed some unspeakable breach of basic behaviour.

So… all fantasy land, again? No great shock.
Re: Smith's Texas BBQ Phnom Penh
Actually there is an Open Mic night there. Strictly music as far as I know.
