I hope they run out of other people money for the new PP airport and the whole project grinds to a halt. Heaven forfend they spend their own money.

Math might not be their strong point

Just a few random thoughts spring to mind from these figures-
Accuracy of records keeping along with the clash in different counting systems- they may have just got the figure for Cambodians wrong by a factor of ten.
That in itself might be quite an important number- it might mean that less than 200,000 rather than nearly 2 million Khmer travelled by air internationally, last year.

Someone may also be adding an extra zero to make the numbers look more impressive, what with the investment in new airports. London Gatwick, a single runway airport, handled about 4 times the number of passengers in 2022.
The investment in airports when measured against these traffic figures might leave a big empty hole in someone’s accounting.

Phnom Penh’s current airport allegedly demands quite high fees of anyone operating there, but it’s more than capable of handling the passenger numbers above. Did the planning envisage these new airports being transit hubs, like Changi, KL, Bangkok-BKK? If so, and the thinking doesn’t change, this might be some expensive, underutilised infrastructure.

why do u say ur not a tourist? do u hold a Cambodian passport?
in all these number of arrivals, do they separate tourist visa, extension, B visas? I have not seen that so they must not
if not ur classified as a tourist even if u enter on a 1 year extension>

Vietnamese. no idea why they go to Cambodia, visit relatives??

neither buys much as both countries offer better selections of most goods at a cheaper price
