Navrig's Cambodia Questions
Navrig's Cambodia Questions
This is my 3rd or 4th post asking questions relating to a planned cycle from Hanoi to Bangkok. I thought it may be easier to create one thread and then add questions as they arise. That way very helpful answers will be in one place.
My route starts in Hanoi, generally, follows the Vn coast as far as Nha Trang where I will cut inland to Dalat and then down to HCMC. From there I am aiming for a border crossing at Chau Doc. Then I am considering several options:
1. Cycle to Battambang stopping there and taking a bus back to Siem Reap for some tourism.
2. Cycle to Phnom Penh and onto Siem Reap
3. Cycle to Phnom Penh then ferry to Siem Reap
4. Ferry to Phnom Penh then ferry to Siem Reap then resume cycling.
After Siem Reap I'll head for the border at Phsar Prum and then head to Bangkok.
I am Scottish, retired and have, previously, lived in Vietnam for a year. I have never been in Cambodia or Thailand.
I am struggling to find online information of the Phnom Penh - Siem Reap ferry. There are plenty of websites referring to it and I even found one which linked to a booking page but it looks like all the start/end points are coastal. This makes me think that the ferry no longer runs.
To be clear, I am not looking for a "luxury" tourist boat trip but the regular ferry used by locals. I am trying to check if I can travel with a bike.
Couple of links suggesting ferry is an option:
https://www.tourismcambodia.com/travelg ... -there.htm
https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attractio ... vince.html
Booking page: https://bookmebus.com/en?type=VehicleTypeBoat
Can anyone shed any light on the ferry across Tonlé Sap?
I still have to investigate the river ferry from Chau Doc but if anyone has information on that I would appreciate it.
