The Kep Revival

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

@kgbagent: nice pics, really appreciated. Visited Kep a few months ago last time and the pace of change is quite fast. Hated that they have cut down the trees as I used to spread a blanket to sit in the shadow at the edge of the beach, although that happened a while ago already. Sellers also don't like it much as people arrive, take a selfie on the "I love Kep" platform then leave.

Khoai Lang Thang yesterday posted his latest vlog on YouTube from Kep/Kampot in what apparently will be a series from Cambodia's coastline. Auto-generated subtitles in English are not very good but are still sufficient to follow.

A new two-story crab market is set to build on the reclaimed land, with construction likely commencing next year. All the sellers are expected to relocate to this modern facility, while the former market area undergoes a transformation into a restaurant area and plaza.
The new market have sea access do you know?
The new market will build here next to the shore so I guess it has sea access.

There's zip lines on the hill and it is open. Went there few months and there was some foreigners and local teens enjoying the zip lines. There's cafe and some other activities too. But no zip line to beach and it's unlikely that one will be added in the future, as the zip line park seems to be fully completed already(?).

The beach area is nicer that there's less aggressive vendors now. All the picnic places on the beach side has been removed. There's now parking and pavement for walking. Few years and the new palms should be bigger and it's nice again. Old big trees were nice but I feel the beach area has improved otherwise.

Tycoon’s Company Receives 1,247 Hectares Along Kep Coastal Waters for Satellite City Development

A company linked to tycoon Khun Sear, TP Moral Group, received 1,247 hectares of coastal waters in Kep province to develop a new satellite city and “special tourism zone” according to a March 6 sub-decree signed by former Prime Minister HE and publicized in the Royal Gazette on Monday.

The land concession is spread out across Kep, Angkol and Pong Tek communes in Damnak Chang’eur district. In the same sub-decree, HE granted the Kep Provincial Administration 220 hectares for public infrastructure and the construction of a stadium in the same areas.

Kep City Governor Kheng Yorn, Deputy Provincial Governors Ol Pirun, Land Department Director Vao Sokha and Provincial Environment Department Director Im Panharith did not respond to requests for comment about TP Moral Group’s satellite city project.

Much of Kep’s coastline has already been granted to well-connected private individuals and companies.
