Return v. One-Way Airfares

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

Agree with this, although for me it's more avoiding Bangkok that's the benefit. And I would stop in Saigon for a couple of weeks before coming back here as I've done several times this year.

I try not to focus on a final destination when I travel, as it creates a mindset where I just want the journey to be over.
Agree with ur last sentence, BUT for me thats more about travelling, not trying to just get somewhere

A to B as USA- Thailand i just wantt get there so the travelling can begin :beer3:

From my current location I can take one direct regional flight to PNH which would cost about 3x the price of a SGN or 2X of a BKK ticket. As I dont need visa for Vietnam and can do some shopping and other stuff in HCMC or BKK, it is a good option for me. Time is not a real issue.

Long distance flights 12 hrs and more is a different story. In that case, I would break up the trip, have some nice food, a shower, and a good sleep before moving on to PNH.

The beauty of the overland arrangement is that the bus groups get handled at one counter while stray travelers by another, last September it was that way. I cleared both checkpoints including the walk in less than 20 min. Over all I was 1 hr faster than the bus despite my connections. Taking an early public bus from district 1 to An Suong at around 5 am let's you have lunch in PNH.

When I fly long distance to BKK, I can make it either to the PNH night bus in Poipet or sleep in Aran and be at the border at around 5.40 to be early in the line at Thai immi. Reverse: Some night buses make it into Poipet in time for the 6 am border opening and the train to BKK right from the Thai check point. 49 baht (Aran 48 ;) ). Lat Krabang a bit cheaper then 16 baht for the airport link.

The cheap flights to PNH from BKK vice versa are nice as long as no luggage is involved and nothing is cheap any longer.

Given that those shuttle flights would be a separate ticket, there are dangers concerning delays involved and long waits in order to mitigate those. Thus I like the flexibility of the land transport. For people who need to get to work or want to be back with their loved-ones things look of course very different.
