R.I.P. to a master percussionist.

I am so sad to read this.
He would come into the old downstairs Oscar's many times around midnight - around 2014. Oscar would get off the skins and invite him onto that tiny stage. It was magic when he played. The first time I saw him play I sat up and thought - this guy is a bit special. A customer who was a knowledgable jazz fan told me he had seen a video of Lewis playing with Nathan East in LA. He used the cowbell a lot sometimes. I mean A LOT, in a way that a less proficient drummer would appear indulgent. He had real class. Always so relaxed and smiling.
After the music moved upstairs in 2016, he was often there with a bunch of other Malaysian guys, lovely people. I used to guest sing quite often and he was kind enough to always compliment me. We would all laugh when I said I won't give up my day job just yet.

I often thought about him and longed for him to walk back in - now only his spirit will - but that's enough. I will love you forever Lewis.

Lewis was a sweet guy. Always wondered what happened to him.

I remember him from the Groove Jazz Bar (BBK1) and the Bouchon Wine Bar on St.246, Lewis was very entertaining.
