Went to Naga again. A lamb curry with actual lamb in it, which is a rarity in these parts. It's a small portion but plenty of meat and a nice flavour. Comes with a small side of veg curry and some very hot chapatis. $5 all in. Perfect for a light lunch.

Free water too if you ask for it. The bottled stuff is $1.

Show me one place in PP where you can get genuine lamb curry (not goat, buffalo or other mystery meat), plus freshly cooked breads and a veg curry side, all for a fiver.

Perfect air conditioning, everything spotless, kitchen on show, no rats or cockroaches in sight...

(I started before I took the photo, so yes, it was filled to the top.)

Just had lunch there and yes, unbeatable value. $5.50 now but still dirt cheap considering the quality of the meat and the fact it comes with three chapatis, restaurants here typically charge around a Dollar for one chapati.

Only downside is the limited menu, just 6 dishes, plus a daily special. And of course you are sitting in a casino surrounded by Mainlanders.

Did you try the Biryani or just the lamb?

Just the lamb. Whilst I wasn't completely stuffed, I could not have eaten the Biryani after that.

As I said, it is a good light lunch. At first sight, I thought it didn't look much but it was just right.

Update Indigo Restaurant.

After a far from satisfactory meal in April, I went back for a second shot as people had pointed out that it was Khmer New Year back then and that might explain the mediocre food and service.

Unlike last time, I went for lunch this time around. First thing that struck me was how dim the restaurant is. It made reading the menu a real challenge for this old fool. The restaurant was also a little too warm for my liking.

Image
The restaurant is a little dim.

The menu hasn't changed and it is still the standard menu that 95% of the Indian restaurants in this city have. I ordered chicken Samosa, Vanakkam fish curry, chicken Saag, Dal Makhani, a couple of garlic Naans, and a banana lassi.

Image
The banana lassi was a little short on bananas.

My lassi took a fair while to arrive. It was not bad but could certainly have used more banana. The waiter who took our oder was friendly enough, but the food was brought by the same lady I had a run-in with during my last visit in April. Her attitude hasn't changed, she is definitely in the wrong business.

The chicken samosa were tasty, but they were mostly potato. There were exactly two small pieces of chicken in each samosa, they should have called it a potato samosa instead.

Image
The samosas were large and tasty.

Image
But one needed a magnifying glass to find the chicken.

The waiter had not asked us how spicy we wanted the curries, and both the fish curry and the dal were very spicy. Fine with me, but my friend struggled. Both the dal and the fish curry were also extremely salty, bordering on the inedible. I actually wanted something else to drink to wash down the salt, but after the food was served, we never so another service staff. And it was not because they were busy, there were a total of 6 guests, but everyone was hanging out at the cashier's desk, playing on their phones.

Image
The special fish curry was too salty and too spicy.

Image
As was the Dal.

Image
The Chicken Saag was decent.

I did not like the Naan. Admittedly, it is a personal preference, but I like my naans soft and chewy as I use them to pick up my food. These naans very very thin and actually brittle and crunchy in places.

Image
The Naan were to crispy for my liking.

No Khmer New Year excuse this time, I doubt that I will be back any time soon.

Image
Prices are reasonable, if only the food, and service, was better.

Image
Last impression is not too good, I had scribbled stuff in a restaurant.

One thing I've noticed in a lot of these Indian restaurants is when they bring your plate out, before the food, their thumbs are all over it. You'll see next time. If the Indians attitude to hand-washing is similar to Khmers, then good luck!

Flavors of India tops my list of Indian Restaurants for taste and VFM. They do a mean mutton samosa and a good dum biryani on Sundays. The kebab platter is also a very good deal. The butter chicken is to die for.
For South Indian fare I go to Swagat on Street 288. The idli, dosa and medu wada are good though their sambar is quite spicy.
Namaste caters to people who think they know Indian food but don't. More pricey than Flavors of India.
Naga quality is very good and the prices are great too. Not the tastiest Indian food though. But you never have a stomach upset.
I feel like marketing my pork indad and pork sorpotel. I'd have a queue at my door! Hahaha.
