Cable TV - what's the process?
I know cable TV costs around $100pa, but what's the process for getting it installed (multiple points) as a new installation in PP, please?

Wow, come to think of it, I have no idea and can't recall any Westerners getting that done.StroppyChops wrote:I know cable TV costs around $100pa, but what's the process for getting it installed (multiple points) as a new installation in PP, please?
Plenty of internet installations, but never cable.
I think everyone who needs cable has just figured out a way to steal it from someone else who already has it.
Last I recall, there were 2 main providers that offered the cheep, basic cable. A lot of overlap, but there were a few channels that divided them, of which one might have been BBC or Nat Geo.
If I had to guess, there are probably only about 20 paying subscribers in Phnom Penh and EVERYONE else has leeched off them, and leeched off them, and so on and so forth..........

I don't know what the connection fee is now, as mine has been connected for over 7 years and has 3 multiple tv connections. But I find that cable tv is a bit boring as there are so many programs that you cannot watch. Take away the Chinese, Vietnamese , Thai, Cambodian , rubbish programs and you are left with ?????
Even the English channels like CNN, BBC, like giving you repeats of repeats, and as for the ABC24 channel, that has gone down hill since the big changeover.
When it comes to value for money, one is better off spending $$ on upgrading your internet speed and watching stuff that YOU want to watch, rather than cable tv that gives you programs that THEY want you to watch.

Re: Cable TV - what's the process?
The two main ones are PPCTV and CCTV.StroppyChops wrote:I know cable TV costs around $100pa, but what's the process for getting it installed (multiple points) as a new installation in PP, please?
We use PPCTV, and my wife assures me that it costs us $35 for six months. From memory, the install was $50, which included the first 6 months subscription.
Maybe you could check with the neighbors which company they use, then you'll know that the cable already runs by your house. Otherwise you might be billed for running a cable a few hundred meters up the road.
Some newer homes have the cable already wired into the walls, and running to every room. Otherwise, you can buy, or the cable Co. might provide, one of those little junction doodahs to run cables to where you want. It might be messy, but I'm sure you can do your own trunking to make it look nice.

Do you have TVOne in PP? Here in Snookyville, after you buy the equipment its $10. a month. Its done with a transmitter and a receiver/antenna that you buy for your house. If you move, you take it with you.
