The New International Airport Construction in Siem Reap

These recent articles about the replacement of 10.000 people and the way that was handled won't help the cause either.armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2023 8:32 pm I wonder what proportion of international tourits have ever extended their stay in the UK because they heard Rishi Sunak urge them to do so.

....The Cambodian government has used “intimidation, harassment, threats and acts of violence” to remove about 10,000 families from the world heritage site
so could be upwards of 20-30,000 people ( if u include children)
https://apnews.com/article/angkor-wat-e ... a18dac7275BANGKOK (AP) — The human rights group Amnesty International has strongly criticized UNESCO and its World Heritage program for failing to challenge the Cambodian government’s ongoing mass evictions at the famous centuries-old Angkor Wat temple complex.
The London-based organization in a report released Tuesday charged that the evictions of an estimated 10,000 families by Cambodian authorities violated international and national law.
It said the evicted people have received little or no compensation and the government’s two main resettlement sites have inadequate facilities in terms of roads, water and electricity supplies and sanitation.
for sure wont go over very well IF tourists actual give a shit
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Can anyone unpick this? Is it 32000 per day, or 3200?
The number of air passengers passing through SAI has increased to 32,000 per day, increasing from just 26,000 in October, when the airport was put into commencement.
The average number of air passengers increased from 2,600 to 3,200 per day, and most of them are from ASEAN countries and China, SSCA’s Under Secretary of State Sin Chansereyvutha told Khmer Times.
The number of air passengers passing through the newly -commenced Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport (SAI) has continued to grow, with a record of 3,200 a day, up from 2,600 on October 24.

It's a 3 week "round the world" package tour flight which started and will end in Paris. So far it has called at Havana, Cartagena, Easter Island, Papeete and Sydney and is going on to Hanoi and Samarkand.Doc67 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 8:30 amIs this a regular service or just a PR stunt?armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 7:06 amThis plane has a capacity of 293.rogerrabbit wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 1:57 am First big plane arrived yesterday to Siem Reap when EuroAtlantic's charter Boeing 777 from Sydney landed with 230 passengers on board.

Re: The New International Airport Construction in Siem Reap
Well spotted, there are 14 arrival flights today. So if you say 28 movements - that would mean 1,142 per plane (32000/28). I think we can assume an extra zero get added in the enthusiasm.Doc67 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 8:30 amIs this a regular service or just a PR stunt?armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 7:06 amThis plane has a capacity of 293.rogerrabbit wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 1:57 am First big plane arrived yesterday to Siem Reap when EuroAtlantic's charter Boeing 777 from Sydney landed with 230 passengers on board.

At 114 pax per plane, that is a challenging load factor given that most of the planes are A320/321s.
BTW, there are no flights to or from China today. One is scheduled for tomorrww (Kunming).

But take alook at KOS airport daily flight arrivals!
Re: The New International Airport Construction in Siem Reap
How does SAI get direct flights to Da Nang? How much demand is there for that route? What is even stranger is the price. If you want to go next week it will set you back $466, and if you want to book in January it is even more at $510. What is that all about?armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 1:02 pmWell spotted, there are 14 arrival flights today. So if you say 28 movements - that would mean 1,142 per plane (32000/28). Re: The New International Airport Construction in Siem Reap
This 777 world tour flight obviously gave them ideas. The recent articles contain suggestions of flights to SAI from other "tourist centers", e.g. Denpasar, Da Nang, Cebu.
As for pricing, this is the way - if you haven't got enough customers and you're losing money, simply increase the price until you're in profit. To be fair, that can work on occasions and is a recognised economic phenomenon.

There used to be a Cebu Pacific flight to from SR to Cebu. A pain in the ass to go from PP to SR for the connection but much better than going via Manilla.armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 9:07 amThis 777 world tour flight obviously gave them ideas. If I lived in Bangkok I could go to so many places directly. PP is such a backwater in this regard.
