Seeds of Change: Cambodia’s Drive Toward Prosperous Agriculture

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Cambodia News: With a keen focus on high yield crops, Mr. Keut Chhe, the acting governor of Phnom Penh, has called upon the Department of Agriculture, Department of Water Resources, and the Meteorology Department, coupled with the Kambol District Authority, to pay increased attention to technical training and water supply. This call was made to efficiently utilize the seeds provided by the Royal Government to the residents, leading to a boost in agriculture productivity.

This request was presented by Mr. Chhe during an event where rice seeds were disbursed by His Majesty HM to 108 flood victims, located at Stung Prek Tnaot at Wat Trom Chreung in Khchao Village, Sangkat Boeung Thom, Khan Kambol. The incident took place on Tuesday, 9th March 2021.

Mr. Chhe highlighted the importance of the Phnom Penh Department of Agriculture officials in providing technical training to the locals. The Department of Water Resources has also been urged to work closely with the local population to ensure an apt water supply for crop production.

Additionally, authorities at the local level, particularly at the Kambol district, are advised to interact directly with the people, attending to their needs promptly after receiving seeds provided by Samdech Moha Bovathibodi Hun, enabling them to secure high-yield crops.

With the Kingdom of Cambodia firmly at peace, Mr. Chhe took the opportunity to underscore that this tranquillity enables the Cambodians to pursue activities ranging from business to trade and production. Therefore, the public's cooperation in maintaining this peaceful atmosphere was implored.

Mr. Khim Sunsoda, the Governor of Kambol District also shared that a total of 6,650 kilograms of rice seeds were distributed to the 108 families affected by the Stung Prek Tnaot flood and reaffirmed it as a generous gift from Prime Minister HM.

These families are residents of the Kambol district which spans 1,724 hectares of rain-fed rice land and specifically Boeung Thom Sangkat, hosting 478 hectares of this territory. The district noted an elevated water level of the Stung Prek Tnaot river in October 2020, resulting in widespread floods. The catastrophe affected a total of 108 households and damaged 51.68 hectares of agricultural fields in Sangkat Boeung Thom's five villages, including Daun Kok village, Khchao village, Anlong Svay village, Trapeang Krasaing village, and Prey Take village. The 108 affected families also gratefully accepted the valued seeds offered by Samdech HE, courtesy of the Phnom Penh Capital Administration and the Kambol District Authority.
