Six senior police officers were arrested yesterday and charged by the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court for allegedly taking bribes from Chinese drug traffickers by turning a blind eye to their illegal activities.

Preah Sihanouk Provincial Police officer Lieutenant Colonel Sum Vichetr said yesterday that the six accused are Colonel Tith Vannak, the former deputy commander of Kampong Speu Military Police and Chief of Provincial Anti-Drug Trafficking and Major Yos Dina, the Commander of Phnom Sruoch district Military Police and four other officers, subordinates of Col Vannak and Maj Dina.

They were charged with “receiving benefits from drug offences” under Articles 29 and 57 of the Law on Drugs Control. If convicted, they face a jail term from five to ten years each, Lt Col Vichetr said.

Police in the anti-drug department in the Ministry of Interior on October 26 cooperated with the provincial anti-drug department in Preah Sihanouk province and arrested a group of Chinese drug traffickers and seized several kilogrammes of methamphetamine.

According to their confessions, the seized drugs were transported by car from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville via Kampong Speu province’s Phnom Sruoch district, he said.

“During the police interrogation, they confessed that for transportation of the drugs they bribed a group of military police officers in Phnom Sruoch district,” he said.

“Based on the confessions, the anti-drug police later asked for authorisation from the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court prosecutor to extend their investigation to Kampong Speu province,” he said.

After a long investigation, police arrested the six accused in accordance with the court’s warrant on Sunday in Kampong Speu province. Later they were transferred to Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court for further questioning and to be charged.

What’s good for the goose , should be good for the gander
Traffic cops do it . what’s going to become of sihanoukville ?
This should easily have been expected , I’m not saying it should be totally acceptable,
but it is uncommon to — expose their brothers like this ,
but they should have been warned at least , unless it wasn’t made clear to us this was a second offense
.. maybe they are corrupt beyond the rest .. god only knows ..

I want to make a spoiler but I don’t know how.

Obviously a line has been crossed, or moved. And these guys ended on the other side of the line.

Now does this mean there will be an increasing accountability amongst the police? Or just lip service to appeal to the masses or the inner circle?

Colonel Tit(h) and his gang. They've put them against a wall already, now all that's left to do is pulling the trigger.

Despite the headline, these are army, not police.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
