Land bridge across the Kra isthmus

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Double the number of ships and crew to carry a single piece of cargo. Possibly triple the transport costs. Not much time savings. What company would go for this?

If the shipping lines can use each end as an interconnected transhipment point at a lower cost and shorter waiting/berthing times than the current main ones like Singapore it might have some logic.

If you look on the map the distance the big ships save not going around all Malay and Singapore, and you now those big guys run in a less then 7 days from Port Klang Malaysia to Mumbai India ( i know because shipped my car on this line last year) its wishful thinking from some thai guy who has been drinking at Bangla-road in Patong to long that they would save more then a day. Once those big guys are on cruise-speed they cover 300 or 400 nautical miles a day without any problem, entering and/or leaving a port is the most time-consuming !! Everybody speeks about green-deals but as long as i see people in Asia drinking Italian San Pellegrino water and in Europe buying cheap asian clothes, the big containerships will sail across the globe forever !!
