Nearly 60,000 Used Bus Transportation Services during Pchum Ben Festival
Cambodia News, Phnom Penh: More than 60,000 factory workers have used over 1,500 buses to visit their hometowns during the traditional Khmer Pchum Ben festival.
Mr. Met Meas Pheakdey, the Spokesman of Phnom Penh Capital Administration, on the night of 16/10/2023 stated: "Following the high recommendation of the Supreme Leader of the Kingdom of Cambodia, HM, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia Administration," the Phnom Penh Government, led by HE Khuong Sreng, Governor of Phnom Penh, released 455 passenger buses for transporting workers to their hometowns from Phnom Penh, free of charge for a period of 5 days starting from 12/10/2023 till 16/10/2023.
During the allotted period, roughly 60,000 factory workers made use of free public bus services being made available by more than 1,500 buses. Mr. Met Meas Pheakdey clarified that most people who used the bus to go to their hometowns were hailing from Siem Reap, Battambang and Banteay Meanchey. The move was well received by the people since this helped them save money and travel safely.
