Cambodia Ready to Host the 5th Review Conference of Mine Ban Treaty

Cambodia is ready to host the 5th Review Conference of the Mine Ban Treaty: Siem Reap Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World, which will take place from Nov. 30 to Dec. 3, 2024.
The update was shared by H.E. Ly Thuch, First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), in a strategic preparatory meeting for the promotion of globalisation and mine actions here in Phnom Penh on Oct. 16.
His Royal Highness Prince Mired Raad Zeid Al-Hussein, Special Envoy of the Ottawa Convention; EU Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Igor Driesman; Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia H.E. UENO Atsushi; German Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Stefan Messerer; Director of the Ottawa Convention's Implementation Support Unit (ISU) Mr. Juan Carlos Ruan; and Representatives from Embassies in Phnom Penh, UNDP, and ICRC attended the meeting.
H.E. Stefan Messerer and H.E. UENO Atsushi voiced their support for Cambodia as the host of the 5th Review Conference of the Mine Ban Treaty: Siem Reap Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World as well as the 3rd Global Conference on Assistance to the Victims of Anti-Personnel Mines and Other Explosive Ordnance in a Disability Rights Context from Oct. 17-19 in Phnom Penh.
H.E. Ly Thuch expressed his gratitude for all the support and outlined the key agenda and priority action plan of the conference.
They are further promotion of the Ottawa Convention, mine clearance work towards a mine-free world, partnership, and deeper cooperation.
More support for mine victims, such as those with disabilities and vulnerable communities, will also be discussed.
