A Look Back at Canada's Contribution to Cambodia's Development

Cambodia cheered the 156th anniversary of Canada's National Day and the 70th Anniversary of Cambodia-Canada Diplomatic Relations, highlighting the country's crucial contribution to Cambodia's development, including demining mission.

Representing the Royal Government of Cambodia, Senior Minister and First Vice President of Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) H.E. Ly Thuch joined the celebration of the anniversaries on July 4 at Raffles Hotel Le Royal, Phnom Penh.

Cambodia and Canada have built a long-standing friendship and close cooperation for nearly 70 years, and Canada has been among the key contributors to Cambodia's peace building process and socio-economic development, said the senior minister.

Canada particularly supported Cambodia's effort to foster trade, investment, vocational training, and other humanitarian activities.

On behalf of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE who is also CMAA President, H.E. Ly Thuch thanked Canada for its assistance for Cambodia's demining mission that saves lives, reduces accidents and deaths of landmine, and transforms local livelihoods and access to public goods.

Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau to Pay a Working Visit to Cambodia This Week

H.E. Nuno Gomes Nabiam, Prime Minister of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau will pay a Working Visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia from July 21 to 24, at the invitation of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE.

During his visit, H.E. Nuno Gomes Nabiam will pay a courtesy call on Samdech Techo HE, and attend a working dinner hosted by the Cambodian Prime Minister, pointed out a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation AKP received this evening.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for both leaders to discuss various bilateral topics, chart a course of action for advancing mutually beneficial cooperation, and exchange their perspectives on regional and international issues of shared interest and concern, it added.

Additionally, the same source continued, H.E. Nuno Gomes Nabiam will have a meeting with Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

H.E. Nuno Gomes Nabiam will have the opportunity to witness the Kingdom's general election first-hand, scheduled for July 23, 2023, and exchange electoral experiences.

"The maiden Working Visit of H.E. Nuno Gomes Nabiam to Cambodia will mark a significant milestone in the amicable relations between both countries and contribute to strengthening the bonds of good friendship and cooperation in the interests of the two people," stressed the press release.

HE the PM of Guinea-Bissau has come to Cambodia to observe the smooth successful running of the national elections this weekend, and perhaps he hopes to learn some tips from a master.

Guinea-Bissau is a small nation that gained independence from Portugal nearly five decades ago. The country has endured continued political turmoil, including multiple coups, since then.

President Umaro Sissoco Embalo, a former army general, took office after he was declared the winner of a December 2019 runoff election. He survived a February 2022 coup attempt when assailants armed with machine guns and AK-47s attacked the government palace.

Since assuming office, Embalo has cracked down on civic freedoms, while government bodies have lost significant independence, according to analysts. He dissolved the parliament in May 2022 and postponed the legislative election scheduled for the following December.

Lucia Bird Ruiz Benitez de Lugo, director of the West Africa Observatory at the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime, said that Embalo has consolidated his grip on power since his controversial inauguration in February 2020.

Samdech Techo HE Encourages Cooperation Expansion between Cambodian and Indonesian Armies

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE, outgoing Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received here at the Peace Palace this afternoon visiting H.E. Gen. Dudung Abdurachman, Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army.

According to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian Premier, in the courtesy meeting, H.E. Gen. Dudung Abdurachman informed Samdech Techo HE of the outcomes of his bilateral meeting with H.E. Mao Sophann, Acting Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army.

Both sides agreed to further boost their existing cooperation through strengthening the exchange of experience and information and expanding the scope of military training, H.E. Gen. Dudung Abdurachman said.

In reply, Samdech Techo Prime Minister highly valued the cooperation between both countries’ armies and encouraged them to increase their cooperation, considering that the army is “diplomat of peace.”

Cambodia News, Phnom Penh: Turkmenistan has expressed its intention to be the first to connect direct flights with Cambodia among Central Asian countries and is interested in strengthening tourism cooperation between the two countries to boost tourism flow.

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE, Former Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and current President of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King received here at the January 7 Palace this morning outgoing EU Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Ms. Carmen Moreno.

In the meeting, Samdech Techo HE expressed his congratulations to H.E. Ms. Carmen Moreno on her new mission in Sri Lanka and Maldives after successful concluding her four-year diplomatic mission in Cambodia.

Serbia Committed to Tightening Cooperation with Cambodia

The Republic of Serbia is committed to continue strengthening its relations and cooperation with the Kingdom of Cambodia, affirmed H.E. Ms. Ana Brnabić, Serbian Prime Minister in her recent congratulatory letter to Cambodian new Prime Minister H.E. Kitti Tesaphibal Pundit HM.

“On the occasion of your appointment as Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia. I extend to you, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and on my own, cordial congratulations and best wishes for the successful discharge of your responsible duties, as well as for the further overall progress and well-being of your country and the friendly people of Cambodia,” she said.

The Serbian leader also expressed her pride of the traditionally friendly relations between both countries, which date back to the founding of the Non-Aligned Movement, within the framework of which the two countries cooperated closely. “Serbia is strongly committed to further deepening the cooperation with Cambodia, and I am ready to make a personal contribution to this end,” she underlined.

Thai Prime Minister Setha Thavisin Chooses Cambodia As First Country For Official Visit

Cambodia News Phnom Penh (26/09/2023): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has announced that the Prime Minister of Thailand, Setha Thavisin, will make an official visit to Cambodia. According to a press release from the Ministry, at the invitation of His Excellency HM, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Mr. Setha Thavisin will make his first official visit to Cambodia on 28/09/2023.

During his visit, the Thai Prime Minister will lay a wreath at the Independence Monument and pay homage to His Majesty King Norodom Sihanouk, the former King of Cambodia at the Royal Palace.

The two Prime Ministers will hold bilateral meetings aimed at deepening and enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields within the bilateral and multilateral frameworks. They will also exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest and concern. Additionally, the two leaders will participate in the handover of the "Center for Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation for Victims of Trafficking in Persons and Other Vulnerable Groups" located in Poipet, a joint initiative from bilateral transactions.

Brazilian Foreign Minister Arrives at Phnom Penh International Airport
