Cambodia News, (Siem Reap Province): On the night of October 8, 2023, police in Siem Reap Province arrested a couple, after a man was killed in a dispute over drinking which occured near the Apollo Plaza restaurant in the canal next to National Road 6A in Phum Khnar, Sangkat Chreav, Siem Reap City.

Colonel Nuon Sak Chamroeunrith, Deputy Commissioner for Siem Reap Provincial Criminal Police, said that at 4:10 a.m. on October 8, 2023, our police force received information from the traffic police that an unidentified man, about 35 years old and about 150 cm tall, was lying dead in a ditch next to National Road 6A, about 100 meters west of Apollo Plaza restaurant, in Phum Khnar, Sangkat Chreav, Siem Reap.The deceased man had a tattoo on his chest and back, wore a black long-sleeved T-shirt, and black knee-length shorts.

He said that after receiving the above information, the police arrived at the scene led by Mr. Ngil Sovanrith, Deputy Prosecutor of Siem Reap Province, with the cooperation of the Police, Technical, Scientific and Forensic Doctors of the Siem Reap Provincial Referral Hospital to analyze the scene, examine the body, and interview witnesses.

He added that through the investigation, the serious criminal police force and Sotnikum district police force identified two suspects with the following names:
1. Hol Hay, alias Men, male, 31 years old, occupation, worker. Current address: Beng village, Dan Run commune, Sot Nikum district, Siem Reap province.
2. Name: Koeum Kan, Female, 28 years old, occupation, worker. Same address as above.


Koeum Kan confessed to police that at 9:00 pm, one week before the incident, her husband had an argument and used violence with the victim while the two were drinking together at night, and there were bad feelings between the two men.

After the arrests, the suspect named Hol Hay, alias Men, not only admitted that he and the victim had previously had a fight, but he also confessed that at 2:00am on October 8, 2023, he and his wife left their house by motorbike, armed with a machete, and went to the food stall where the victim slept every night after closing time. When they arrived at the scene, the suspect got off the motorcycle and slashed the sleeping victim with the machete; he hacked at the torso while the victim was lying on his back, and when the victim fell over face down on the sidewalk, he slashed the victim again on his back until he was dead.
Then the suspect's wife helped him to lift up the victim and throw his body into a ditch. The couple then drove home on their motorbike, taking a damp cloth to clean the blood from the bike, and then they burned the cloth in a pile of garbage near the house.


However, at 12:00 on the same day, the couple were arrested and taken away by the police. The two suspects are currently being interrogated by the serious criminal force and the case is being sent to the Siem Reap Provincial Prosecutor's Office for further proceedings.
