VOA:kicked out of Cambodia, will be reporting from USA

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Cambodian Media Outlet to Relaunch From the US
PHNOM PENH —
One of Cambodia’s last independent media outlets, which was shuttered earlier this year, is set to reopen in Tacoma, Washington, in the Pacific United States.

Cambodian authorities revoked the license for Voice of Democracy in February in a move that shocked press freedom advocates and the media outlet’s journalists.

But a statement on the news outlet’s Facebook page this month said it will relaunch with half-hour broadcasts aired on Facebook, YouTube and TikTok beginning October 2.

Voice of Democracy will operate under Pa Nguon Teang, founder and former executive director of the Cambodian Center for Independent Media, which managed the outlet before it was closed. He left Cambodia more than five years ago and resigned from the center in August.

He told VOA Khmer he decided to resume Voice of Democracy because he saw a need for Cambodians to access accurate information and independent journalism.

The relaunch will also help promote press freedom and free expression, he said.

The approach of the media outlet will be the same, but Pa Nguon Teang said the journalists reporting for him will not be in Cambodia

Ok, so Cambodia's reputation for state-sponsored, propaganda-only news will continue to grow, internationally. It's like being in Turkey!
Hey, at least on this site, one can read between the lines and glean some real, verifiable facts.
Controlling news and information is so last century. It's getting harder and harder to do, with advancing technology. Good luck to all the tyrants who cling to this "business practice" of days gone.

Not so last century. Ever hear of the great digital wall of China? Built by Google and others to control its citizens along with social credit enforcement.

That is the model Iron Man is probably wanting in the future.

Of course who watches the watchers?

Sadly, I see no evidence of that anywhere. The methods have changed, the control remains.

Even as a solid supporter of free speech, and occasional author of articles in a independent media(far from here) it might be a wise thing to not do that in Cambodia. Specially if your "independent" media is getting funding from countries with a history, in this very country, to publish material that can be seen as dividing opinions or spread fear or gaslight unwanted cultural phenomena. No matter the content, if the media is named as mentioned, maybe the voice should stay where it is getting funding. In today's era of information, the VOA can easily be found online if someone wish to find it.

VOA can be easily found on-line in Cambodia, unless the government blocks it.

All internet traffic supposedly goes through a central government controlled point.

Oh, and supposedly VOA is one of the blocked sites.

Simple but not so simple for someone wishing to find it.

The title of this thread is wrong. It’s Voice of Democracy that the benevolent HE shut down, not VOA. Voice of Democracy has been shut down for many months already
