Holiday in Syria? It's safe as houses, says US Embassy

Holiday in Syria? It's safe as houses, says US Embassy

Post by Soi Dog »

This official US Embassy in Damascus website has today's date. Sounds so good I might have to go there. What could go wrong? It must be safe in Syria since the news is full of stories of teenage girls leaving their families to travel there.
1. Is it safe for Americans to travel to Syria?
In terms of crime, Syria is considered a safe country.
3. Do acts of terrorism and kidnappings occur in Syria?
There have been no known kidnappings or attempted kidnappings of American citizens in Syria

Acts of terrorism are not common in Syria.
5. Is there a travel warning for Americans traveling to Syria?
As of 12 February 2010, the Department of State deems the security situation in Syria no longer merits a Travel Warning.

Really? how about ISIS?
បើសិនធ្វើចេះ ចេះឲ្យគេកោត បើសិនធ្វើឆោត ឆោតឲ្យគេអាណិត។

If you know a lot, know enough to make them respect you, if you are stupid, be stupid enough so they can pity you.

The US Embassy there obviously didn't think ISIS were worth a mention in their notice to potential travellers to Syria.

(Yes I am fully aware our new, non-native English speaking members won't get the sarcasm.)

They should probably just take the site down since there hasn't been a US Embassy in Damascus since February 2012 The Department of State is up to date at least: http://www.travel.state.gov/content/pas ... syria.html

The U.S Embassy in Syria has been closed since 2012. And completely boarded up its windows in early 2014.

Seriously fucked up in Syria. A total wasteland of epic proportions.
