Photomath - future kids just got dumber

Post by StroppyChops »

Wow - if this is a functioning product and not a mock up, a) I'm impressed, and b) future kids just got dumber.

This is just a combination of camera + OCR + Wolfram Mathematica[1][2].

It's nice that app makers can take credit for 28 years of Wolfram research results[3] that were exposed via an API 3 years ago. With that said, smart kids that were paying attention to the research have been dumber for ages and now the already slightly less gifted kids are picking up with this OCR and camera combination. Which is nice, I guess.

Please compete with them before people miscredit them further for innovation. I literally just gave you the recipe for howto :-)

On a more serious note, I frankly don't believe that this will make anybody dumber. If anything this will increase access to advanced mathematics. I support it. Information wants to be free. Fuck academia and related degree obstacles!

If anyone wants to bring true innovation to this field we need an app that can OCR equations into parseable LaTeX.

We need a usable LaTeX.
