Police Accused of Repression After Accepting Bribe
It seems that you cannot trust anybody these days...
Cambodia News, (Koh Kong Province): According to an unnamed source, Lieutenant Colonel Choung Vanna, Sre Ambel District Police Inspector, accepted 1 million Riel per month from the owner of the online cockfighting venue to close his eyes and not take repressive measures against the illegal gambling installation.
But, according to this same source, this month, only two days after receiving 1 million riel, the inspector ordered his troops to go there on September 2, 2023, and closed the venue, while promising the owner that he can reopen next month.
The source further revealed that today, online cockfighting venues are very popular, doing good business, and suddenly closing this place down was very rude; never before had they seen any authorities take repressive measures, and this sudden crackdown was just showing off for the new minister.
According to the observation of online gambling sites that are open in Sre Ambel district, there are 3 locations: First, the entrance to the new port in Trapeang village, the second near the bridge, in Veal village, and the third behind Leu market in Sre Ambel village.
The location where the Sre Ambel district police inspector first took the money and then cracked down is located in Trapeang village, Sre Ambel commune, Sre Ambel district, Koh Kong province.
Sre Ambel district police chief was asked for clarification, but he denied it briefly and said that he did not know anything about any money received from the owner of the online cock-fighting venue. He said that the police officers only went to the venue to educate and guide.
However, the security camera video seems to show that the police inspector of Sre Ambel district did not go to educate, but to confiscate all the internet equipment.

Re: Police Accused of Repression After Accepting Bribe
I like the sense of entitlement on display by someone who (1) openly breaks the law and (2) bribes police to get away with it (well, until he doesn't).
Not only should he be charged for his crimes and for corrupting an honest member of the police service; his prison term should be doubled for said sense of entitlement.

Looks like a complaint being fought out in local media. The new Sre Ambel district inspector, Doung Vanna, categorically denied allegations that he took monthly payments in exchange for not cracking down on local online gambling.
It's hard to know what really went on, but at a guess, a complaint was reported in local news(possibly from the cock fight club owner himself) that protection money paid to the new district Police Inspector was accepted but not honored, because police raided and closed the shop. (Lol, now that's corrupt!)
Then the Inspector called a press conference and denied taking the protection money.
It's also possible that the bribe was paid to the police team as usual, but the money did not get passed on to the newby Inspector.
