Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

City Hall seeks assistance for troops on borders

Post by phuketrichard »

reading between the lines this made me laugh. Cambodia can't even support its own Army?
WTF>>

surely there are enough Oknha's that can help :stir:
The Phnom Penh municipal administration has urged businesses, investors and philanthropists to contribute funds, food or other supplies to support members of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) stationed along the border and their families.

Officials from the capital will visit the troops between the last week of September and the first week of October, according to a September 4 announcement.

The delegation will inspect four units – Division 3, Intervention Brigade 9, Battalion 793 of the Border Defence Police, stationed along the border near Preah Vihear temple, and Intervention Brigade 128, assigned to the O’Alay area of the Siem Pang district of Stung Treng province.

“To make this visit a success, and to show strong support for our people on the front line, we encourage donations of any kind,” the statement read.

Well it was either food for the troops or a new Rolls Royce for the general.

But to be fair there is plenty of food in the jungle and they have guns for hunting, if someone would be so kind to donate ammunition that is.

I hear all soldiers and policemen had to forfeit part of their pay prior to the elections to help pay for the spectacle. The grunts really are poor sods.

Cambodian troops grow their own food. It’s a running joke among the Khmer.

They also mend their own clothes and service their weapons. The military supply chain to support deployment is non existent.

Deployed to the border, troops are far from their home base and can’t do these things.

Living off the land, stealing villagers food, raping their women, etc., is also frowned upon.
