good time to buy Riel
The National Bank will intervene to shore up the riel, which was trading Friday at 4,171 to the dollar — the lowest point in more than a decade. The bank pointed to harvest season and a sputtering tourism industry for lackluster demand for the currency, which has dropped more than 4% since hitting highs in March.
The NBC in its release yesterday pointed out that the harvest season and low season in the country’s agriculture and tourism sectors respectively also have decreased the demand for riel in Cambodia’s currency market.
“In this direction, [the central bank] is ready to take necessary measures such as intervention in the foreign exchange market and employ other tools of monetary policy to maintain the value of riel, which will maintain the purchasing power of the people sustainably,” the announcement pointed out, adding that NBC implements managed floating regime.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
