DO NOT FEED: Angkor Wat Monkeys are Becoming Agressive
Re: DO NOT FEED: Angkor Wat Monkeys are Becoming Agressive
I think the same may slowly be happening up Bokor...before covid never a problem but at the start of the year on two different occasions a large male charged an old fat cyclist going up hill (me) ..never happened before.... a good loud shout at them stopped them in their tracks but they stood there on all fours immobile. A lot of the these monkeys turn their back so they can not see or be seen...well maybe they just like showing their rear ends
..but I am forever see people throw food at them...on Friday a "youth" threw a punch at one...not that far from it. As soon a car comes they are alert looking for food.
A funnier experience is they will follow the motion on a cycling leg with their eyes...

Re: DO NOT FEED: Angkor Wat Monkeys are Becoming Agressive
Siem Reap: Officials of the APSARA Authority say that monkeys in the Angkor area often endanger the rocks and often threaten national and international tourists. Currently, the most popular tourist destination for monkeys is Angkor Wat, the gateway to Angkor Thom and around the Bayon temple complex. Tourists are asked not to feed the monkeys.
Lek Kimlin, head of the Angkor Wat Tourist Group, said that so far this year there have been 20 cases of monkeys biting tourists in these areas.
