Kampong Cham province: According to a source from Pdao Chum commune, Cheung Prey district, Kampong Cham province, 17 buffaloes drowned in Pdao Chum commune, Cheung Prey district, Kampong Cham province while crossing a river on August 6. 2023, (allegedly) because of a crocodile-like eye design that was painted on a boat.

Pdao Chum commune chief said that the buffalo owners had released their herds of buffalo to graze as usual at Neak Tapo, Kang Meas district, but as the river began to rise and flood the plain, the owners went to herd their buffalos across the river toward drier land. Unfortunately, 17 buffalo died in the crossing.

The commune chief said that the buffalo died from swimming a long distance of 3 kilometers, while being followed by a boat with a big eye painted on the prow, which made it look like a crocodile (to the buffalos). The buffalo were stressed by the "crocodile" following them and became exhausted and drowned.

It should be noted that there were 17 dead buffaloes, 2 of which belong to the people living in Cham Neang village, and 15 of them belong to the people living in Pdao Chum Keut village.
